What Is a Roof Tarping Service — and What's Included

An emergency roof tarp temporarily covers openings or damaged sections of your roof to keep rain and debris out until permanent repairs can begin. Depending on the damage, our emergency response can include:

  • Roof Damage Assessment: We’ll assess what happened and determine which parts of the property need to be secured first.
  • Emergency Roof Tarping: We cover damaged sections of the roof to keep the rain out before repairs begin.
  • Emergency Board-Up Services: We board up broken windows, damaged doors, and other openings that shouldn’t be left uncovered.
  • Damage Documentation: We’ll photograph what we find and the work being done, giving you a record to share with your insurance company.
  • Storm Debris and Tree Removal: We’ll handle cleanup from debris or fallen trees.

Roof Tarping vs. Board-Up — What’s the Difference

Roof tarping covers damaged sections overhead wherever there is a risk of rain and debris entering through the roof. Board-up, on the other hand, secures broken windows, damaged doors, or exposed sections of the structure.

In some cases, you only need one of these services. Other times, you need both. If a tree damages the roof and takes out a window on the way down, we’ll tarp the roof and board up the window in the same visit.

Types of Damage That Require Emergency Tarping

Storm, Wind, and Hail Damage

High winds can pull away roofing materials, while hail and flying debris can leave behind punctures or other vulnerable spots.

Flames and firefighting efforts can damage sections of the roof and require temporary protection during restoration.

A direct hit can punch through the roof and reach the structure underneath.

A partial collapse or major opening may require temporary cover while the permanent fix is worked out.

If damage to the property compromises the roof or creates another exposed opening, tarping or board-up can help secure it until repairs are made.

What You Get — Benefits of Acting Fast

A hole overhead can turn into wet drywall downstairs. A broken window gives rain another way in. Acting quickly with emergency board-up services minimizes the extent of repairs.

Keep Rain From Adding to the Job

Water coming through the roof can reach insulation, drywall, and framing. A tarp helps cut off the source while repairs are being made.

Show You Took Action

Your insurance company may expect you to take reasonable steps to prevent additional damage after a covered loss. Getting the roof covered shows you didn’t simply leave it exposed to the elements.

Give Your Adjuster Something Concrete

Photos of the damage and work performed provide a record of what happened and what was done to fix it.

What Happens If You Wait

Once rain gets through the roof, it can soak into insulation, drywall, and other materials, giving you an unnecessarily large mess to deal with. In some cases, mold will begin to grow if the space isn’t properly dried within 24 to 48 hours.

Serving Atlanta and the Surrounding Metro Area

How Our Emergency Tarping Process Works

Step 1 — Call or Submit a Request

Call our 24/7 emergency line or fill out our form. Tell us where you are and what happened, and we’ll take it from there.

Step 2 — On-Site Damage Assessment

We’ll assess the damage and determine what needs covering or securing. We’ll document our findings and walk you through it before work begins.

Step 3 — Tarping and Board-Up Installation

We document the mitigation work as we go, giving you a record of the damage and the steps taken to protect your property.

What Atlanta Homeowners Say About Our Emergency Services

I had the pleasure of working with Elmer at Georgia Water & Fire Restoration. We had a water leak in our kitchen that caused extensive damage. Elmer was wonderful from the start of the project to the end. He communicated with me every step of the way. He even helped me with small tasks that were not apart of the renovation. Georgia Water & Fire did a tremendous job replacing the floors, countertops, and raising our kitchen island. I would absolutely use this company for future renovations. Please please please make sure to ask for Elmer. He is fantastic. You will not regret going with this company.
Elmer and his crew were the best. Professional, friendly and efficient. They made the repair process easy and stress free.
Jose and his crew handled our asbestos removal after a HVAC related flood. They were courteous and efficient, and I felt comfortable leaving my home in their hands while we stayed in an Airbnb. Highly recommend. Thanks, Jose!
Jose and his team were really nice, professional, and the asbestos removal process went smoothly for us. Great communication.
Friends, I cannot say enough great things about Georgia Fire and Water! After our house unexpectedly burned down, they did an outstanding job renovating our home from start to finish within a year!

Their team was onsite 5–6 days a week, consistently showing up and working hard. They were attentive to both my husband's and my needs, listened to our ideas, and made sure details matched the vision we had for our home (I made a huge PowerPoint presentation detailing everything).

Whenever we wanted something done a certain way, they took the time to clarify our requests and made any necessary corrections to ensure we were happy with the final result. I asked for many arches to be added, wall shelving/nooks, certain paint styles (see the black bathroom and my Master bedroom with the arch wall ft. my brother), a custom sink, and three specialized doors, including a pocket door. I also custom ordered two doors (my pantry and office door) and when they finished with restoring the house and we were able to move in, they came back to install my two special doors when they arrived!

Communication throughout the project was excellent. They worked seamlessly with our insurance company, kept us informed, and made an overwhelming process easier.

One thing we especially appreciated was their flexibility. If there was something outside of their area of expertise, they reached out to their trusted contractors and vendors to obtain estimates for us. They also gave us the freedom to research and use vendors of our own choosing when we had specific preferences, such as for our fireplace unit and our oak flooring. That level of collaboration made us feel like true partners in rebuilding our home.

A special thank you to our project manager, Roberto, and to his team - Mauricio, Daniel, Mario, and Victor. They were all incredibly kind, patient, professional, and dedicated. Their consistency, hard work, and genuine care for our home and our family did not go unnoticed, and we are so grateful for everything they did.

We highly recommend Georgia Fire and Water to anyone in need of restoration or renovation services. We would absolutely use them again.

Thank you all so so much for helping us rebuild our home!!
From the moment the first gentleman came to inspect our home, to look at the damage, get measurements of every room, to the next part, the project manager came and he inspected the same and they both measured and took pictures, all the while being very professional, kind and helpful. They answered all of our questions, and we had a lot. They were very patient with us as we looked at replacement flooring samples. They stayed in touched with us and always sent the next crew, whether it was painting, or movers to pack everything up and move it out, or remove the damaged flooring. I highly recommend this company. We are very pleased.
My neighbor's pipe broke causing sunstantial water damage to my condo. We started out with an inexperienced competing company. USAA recommended Georgia Water & Fire and I am happy they did. Paul and his awesome team, with the pack out department, handle our belongings with care and packed everything carefully. Paul ensured that our belongings were handled with care and made sure everything placed back as before. Our assigned project manager, Junior, is fantastic. Junior went over and beyond during the entire process. He kept us up to date with the project and communicated with us regarding material selection and work timeline. Overall great experience from the pack out, to restoration. I'm very pleased with the service that Georgia Water and Fire provided and I highly recommend.
The company did a great job. Worked fast and updated and keep communication going through the process. Thank you Rodger.
Please save yourself tons of time and even more frustration, definitely hire these people. My contractor’s name was Roger, and he was on top of every detail at all times. If I had any question or concern whatsoever, I could contact him and he would get right back with me with a satisfactory answer. They care very much about your home and the way that they leave it when they are finished. I am so so happy with my renovations. I had to fire my first contractor, and I was so pleased with Georgia Water And Fire! Be nice to yourself and go ahead and hire them.

FAQs

How much does a roof tarping service cost in Atlanta?

It depends on the size of the damaged area, roof access, and whether board-up is needed too. Call us, and we’ll inspect your property and provide a cost estimate.

We’re available 24/7 throughout Metro Atlanta. Timing varies, especially after a major storm, so call us, and we’ll get a team over to your property as soon as possible.

Possibly. Coverage depends on your policy and what caused the damage. We can provide documentation from our work, but your insurance policy ultimately determines what’s covered.

Yes. If the storm damaged more than just the roof, tell us when you call. We handle emergency tarping and board-up.

We serve Atlanta and surrounding communities, including Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, Kennesaw, and Cumming. If you’re unsure whether or not your property is in our service area, give us your ZIP code, and we’ll confirm availability.

Reimbursement depends on your insurer and policy. DIY tarping carries risks: improper installation can void coverage if the tarp fails, working on a damaged wet roof creates fall hazards, and insurers may scrutinize an inadequate installation. A professionally installed tarp with documented photos better supports your claim and keeps your property secure.
